Description
This rustic lodge in the middle of the desert is the place to get a taste of life as it once was, prior to electricity and pesticides. All the food they make uses local produce which has been grown organically. For light and heat they use solar power and gas lamps. The place has existed since 1950, originally as an hacienda. The current owner lives in the main house and the guest rooms were once the staff rooms. Some years ago, in 1984, they started a business preparing Pachamancas (traditional meals cooked underground for hours, with hot stones) for day visitors and ten years later they turned it into a lodge. Today the owner and staff welcome guests with warmth.

They have a museum of local artifacts as well as an farm at the back with horses that can be ridden, guinea pigs and roosters. Also, during pisco season they have a place where they make their own.

A type of rare cotton, brown in colour, is grown on the premises and local artisans are brought in to weave it and to give demonstrations to the visitors. They weave the cotton completely unprocessed and free of dyes. The lodge helps the artisans sell it - commission free.

To get there you take a dirt road from the highway for 1 or 2 kms. The turnoff point is about 5 kms further south of the airport for the Nasca Lines so you really are in a secluded area.

Insider Tips
Horseback riding and hiking trips can be arranged on request. Also Pachamancas can be prepared for groups on advance request and demonstration rooster fights can be arranged. Their water is pulled from a natural well. No chlorine is used in their water.

Benefits
- The owner is a local and knows the culture quite closely, making this a great place to get a feel for local culture
- This is a peaceful place to get away from it all

Drawbacks
- The accommodations are basic so won’t be for everyone’s taste.
- The secluded location means you have to rely on the hotel to make arrangements for getting in and out of the lodge. If getting away from it all is what you’re looking for, this won’t be a concern.
- Wasipunko is pretty removed from ‘civilization’ making it peaceful but also potentially unsafe.

Rooms
The ecolodge has 12 rooms all of which have private baths and are decorated in rustic style, with local textiles and products. Rooms are fairly small but very clean and beds and pillows are comfortable. Simple S/.60.00, Double S/.125.00, Triple S/.170.00, Quadruple S/.200.00. All room prices include continental breakfast. Camping permit without breakfast or equipment S/.18.00.

Food
Most meals, including breakfast are served at a cozy, rustic dining room with a few wooden tables. The area is lit by gas lamps, candles and some solar power energy. A tree trunk in the middle of the room has been left untouched adding charm and character. Some tables by the garden at the back are occasionally used for Pachamancas created with local ingredients for a very reasonable price.
