Description
Located right on Ollantaytambo’s main square, this little restaurant not only serves excellent, healthy, home-made food, it also donates its profits to projects supporting poor children throughout the Sacred Valley. Its founder, Sonia Newhouse, is a 76 year old British woman who gave up her life in the UK and moved to the Sacred Valley where she got involved with women of native communities. She opened Hearts Cafe in early 2007 in an effort to raise funds for education, conservation and health projects in five communities in the area.
Their home-made menu offers great breakfasts with oatmeal, pancakes, natural juice, homemade brade and a tea infusion–for 15 soles. Their salads are good, with fresh, seasonable veggies (mixed salad, 13 soles). For a heartier appetite try their hamburger with salad (15 soles) or one of their tasty main - steamed trout with mashed potatoes (22 soles), Cordon Bleu chicken (20 soles) or their Thai chicken with whole wheat rice (16 soles).
All their cookies, muffins and pastries have a unique home-made style! Be sure to try their apple crumble for 7 soles.
This is one of the few places in Ollantaytambo that serves great coffee drinks such as latte, capuccino, espresso, mocha..you name it!
Hearts cafe has nice outdoor tables, a book exchange and a stove for those cold nights in the Sacred Valley. This is a great, healthy option filled with beautiful inspiration!
