Description
Hidden behind an unsuspecting door on the streets of Urubamba is a classy, sophisticated restaurant. Upon entering the gates you will pass by the kitchen and through the lovely garden to the bar / lounge which has a ‘modernly Andean’ feel, both inside and out. You can enjoy a drink here before dinner or head straight to the main event.
El Huacatay’s dining room is small and cozy, with only a handful of tables. The furniture and place settings look like they came straight out of Pottery Barn with soft background lighting and soothing music to complement the décor.
You won’t find any ‘platos típicos’ here, but rather a creative menu with enough intriguing options to leave you undecided. Caprese salad with Andean mint & carob (S/ 16), alpaca carpaccio with sesame & cilantro (S/ 20), quinoa & basil cream soup with ricotta & dried tomato ravioli (S/ 16)… and that’s just for starters! Main courses include alpaca lasagne (S/ 28), duck stew (S/ 34) or beef tenderloin (S/ 32). There are also several vegetarian dishes.
From the friendly staff to the fresh-baked bread, this restaurant is truly a gem in the rough!
