Description
Tucked discretely into the forest at the end of a bumpy, windy path from the main road lies this creative ecological enclave. Las Chullpas is the result of the vision and hard work of Leoni Lange, a German native who has raised her family here and called Peru home for over two decades and Gonzalo Muñoz who is from Chile. As a result of her role as the community mid-wife, Leoni is well-known throughout the area and provides a wealth of knowledge on Quechuan culture and natural medicinal healing. She is also highly skilled with her hands, having built much of the accommodations herself from the adobe infrastructure to the alpaca / sheeps wool blankets that dress the beds. Leoni and Gonzalo have created a wonderful environment providing great value to ecologically-senisitive guests.
In addition to the 10 rooms which are spread throughout this forested area there is the Caleandula which serves as a dining room and lounge where you can watch TV and videos or play games by the fireplace. Out back, where the resident goat and sheep dwell, you will find a natural sauna hidden in the form of a straw hut. There is also a full kitchen for guests’ use as well as outdoor laundry facilities, Internet, and phone access. At the back of the property is a beautifully crafted room, which was funded by guests who were moved by Leoni’s role in the local communities, designed to accommodate new mothers and their babies who need a place to recover.
Las Chullpas is a great value for someone who is seeking a unique, off-the-beaten path experience.
