Description
Pasteleria San Antonio is a typical Peruvian coffee shop, a lively place where people drop in throughout the day to take a break as much as to socialize. The morning crowd drops by for a snack and a ‘cafesito’ (a bit of an institution in Lima, you always hear people going for ‘cafesitos’ at any time of day), for lunch it gets very busy and noisy with animated conversations, and all afternoon and evening people come by with friends, to read the paper, or simply to get away from the office. This chain started with one location in Magdalena del Mar and has been successful at expanding without compromising its quality and brand.

You can get much more than just a sandwich here and all the food is of very good quality. The atmosphere is casual, with tables spread across different rooms that are warm with a lot of natural light. The locales tend to be on busier streets so expect a lot of noise and bustle. Spanish only newspapers are available for free for customers to read on premise. Table-service is delivered by staff wearing white hats and white jackets. The menu includes sandwiches, pizzas, salads, grilled meats, empanadas, desserts and a good mix of natural juices and coffees. Beer and wine are also served but are not the main focus in this cafe. This is also a deli, where you can buy a good variety of breads, cheeses and cold cuts for takeout.

Prices: Sandwiches 6.00 – 13.50; From the grill (meats) 7.00 – 14.00; Triples 7.00 – 11.00 (9 varieties of the classic stacked ‘Triple’ sandwich made of three layers: egg, tomato and avocado); Empanadas 4.50 – 5.50 (5 varieties)

Insider Tips
The ‘chicha morada’ (a purple drink made from purple corn and lime) is very good and a popular choice. For a healthy breakfast try the ‘Macedonia de frutas’, fresh cut fruit, served with yogurt, honey and granola for 8 soles.
