Description
Jose Antonio is a synonym of traditional Peruvian cuisine in the gastronomic language of Lima. The original location in San Isidro has been around for ages and locals love this place at lunchtime as much as at dinnertime. If you’re not in a rush, leave some time to enjoy a Pisco Sour at their front bar. But remember to stop after the first one - they are quite generous with their pouring!
The ambiance, rustic and dimly lit, with wooden furniture and bull-fighting adornments, makes you feel a bit like you’re inside an old hacienda. Some of the classic dishes ‘Aji de Gallina’ (pulled chicken with a spicy sauce) and ‘Lomo Saltado’ (beef stir fry served with French fries and rice) are outstanding here.
Insider Tips
For a good sampling of a variety of flavours, try the 'Piqueo'. Served for two, this dish presents ‘anticucho’ (skewered, marinated beef’s heart meat), tamales, stuffed potato, ‘yuca frita’ (fried yucca), sweet potato and their classic corn. No matter what you order here, be sure to get a side of the ‘Choclo Jose Antonio’, corn on the cob with a flavorful sauce, served on a wooden side plate.
