Description
One of Gaston Acurio’s (a famous Peruvian chef) many entrepreneurial creations, this is a modern cevicheria where you will find classic ceviches and seafood dishes plus a number of modern variations like sushi and Asian-flavoured dishes. All seafood and fish are very fresh and creatively prepared. The locale is all open air, with plants and pools of water around the sides contrasting the grey bareness of the rest to give this place a cool, modern ambiance. A bar at the front serves drinks and appetizers.
La Mar is only open for lunch and be warned that this is one of the hottest lunch destinations at the moment so if you want to get a table, be sure to get there by 12:30pm, something unheard of in Lima. To combat the crowds, people have taken to sending their chauffeurs to line up, while others grab a table and await their friends for up to an hour, just to secure a spot. If you’re not there on time you could be subjected to a two hour wait.
Full meal with appetizer and a drink are about US$25.
Insider Tips
If you tried your best and still didn’t make it on time, we suggest you run across the street while you wait - without being caught by the restaurant host so you don’t lose your spot - to Las Delicias for some of the freshest juice you will ever taste. The place is impeccable and their prices ridiculously affordable. Their portions come in jugs and one jug easily serves 3. Try the mixed granadilla and mandarin juice.
