Description
Wayki Trek is a relatively new company started by professional tour guides with the aim of educating travelers about conservation activities in the area. What’s nice about their tours is that groups are limited to 8 people.
Tour 1: Classic Inca Trail (2, 4, 5 or 6 days)
Machu Picchu itself cannot be fully understood without the experience of the Inca Trail. Its principle sites are ceremonial in character, apparently in ascending hierarchical order as you near the city. The trail is essentially a work of spiritual art, like a gothic cathedral, and walking the trail was formally an act of devotion. The two-day version begins at km104, spending a night camping in Aguas Calientes. The four days of hiking covers about twenty eight miles, starting at an elevation of 8400 feet and ending at 7800 feet above sea level you must cross two high mountain passes with a maximum elevation of thirteen thousand feet. Trail conditions are generally good on this ancient byway.
The Wayki Option is an excellent extension of the trip allowing you to visit the village where the porters live, participating in their day-to-day activities for one day. You will have the opportunity to experience their traditions and visit their homes for a delicious typical Peruvian meal.
The six day extension begins in Salkantay before joining the classic Inca Trail.
Wayki Trek's guides are professional, knowledgeable, and English speaking who can explain the significance and the history of the Trail. They use excellent equipment and serve nutritional meals (includes crepes, omelets, soups, fresh fruit, avocado, pastas, chicken, fish, meat, rice), and your porters are also happy and helpful.

Tour 2: Choquequirao to Machu Picchu (9 days)
This Inca city is located high on a ridge of the Salkantay Mountain Range, southwest of Machu Picchu, at nearly 3,100m. It is thought to have been built during the reign of Pachacuti and is likely the former point of entry to the Vilcabamba region, however only 30% of the ruins have been excavated. The ruins are difficult to get to, which means that the route is much more peaceful than the Inca Trail.
This option will take you to Choquequirao by day 2, where you will explore the area. On day 3 you will begin the ascent to the Pinchinuyoc archaeological sites and along the Victoria River on day 4 to camp at Maizel, one of the most beautiful campgrounds in the area. On day 5 you will make your way along the San Juan pass, arriving in Yanama by evening. Day 6 will reach the highest point of the trip - the Yanama pass (4500 m) and end in the small community of Tortura. Days 7 & 8 take you through La Playa and on to the Urubamba River, settling in Aguas Calientes for the final night in a hotel. On the 9th and final day you will take the bus up to Machu Picchu for a guided tour before returning to Cusco.
Tour 3: Salkantay to Machu Picchu (5 days)
Experience “Deep Peru”, hiking one of Peru’s most picturesque landscapes around Cusco. This 5-day trekking expedition will take you from the base of the sacred Salkantay snow peak (6,271 meters; 20,700 feet), considered by the local natives to be the “Guardian Spirit of the Jungle” and will provide you with the opportunity to experience remote native communities and the region’s ecological biodiversity, before reaching the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. You will need a good dose of adrenaline as you hike up a pass above 4600 meters (15,000 feet). The trip is supported with horses for your convenience and you will be provided with top quality camping equipment and a very balanced and energetic diet.
Tour 4: Vilcabamba to Machu Picchu (6 days)
The history of Vilcabamba has always been shrouded in mystery, this area was the last strong hold of the Incas, against the Spanish occupation, and it was lost in time for centuries. Many of the most important battles were fought in this area amongst the mountains, in the fringes of the upper jungle. It has remained almost untouched to this day. You won't find bus loads of tourists here as its hard to get to. There are many small villages, and Inca sites too. This hike will take you from Vilcabamba to Machu Picchu. On the way you will cross mountain passes, traverse through jungle areas, and visit remote villages where you will see people living in ways that have changed very little over the centuries. The route is not easy, but the result is very rewarding. For this hike you will need to be in good physical condition and be prepared to do a lot of climbing and downhill. Mules, porters, guides, and a cook make things easier but it is a hard trek. And that is the whole point of this true adventure.
Tour 5: Lares Trek to Machu Picchu (4 days)
For trekkers wanting to get off the well beaten tourist path and escape to a part of Peru that has changed little over the last 500 years then a trek through the spectacular scenery of the LARES Valley is a must.
This remote and rarely visited region offers an insight into the real lives of the Andean farmer, dressed in their traditional brightly colored ponchos. You’ll have the opportunity to see thatched stone houses surrounded by herds of llamas and alpacas.
The trek itself is rated moderate, similar to the Inca Trail. There are, however, two passes over 4000m so it is essential that you are well acclimatized to the altitude. If arriving from sea level then plan on spending at least 3 days in Cusco and the surroundings before undertaking the trek.
Tour 6: Huchuy Qosqo (3 days)
The adventure begins in Cusco where a bus will pick you up to visit the nearby archaeology sites of Sacsayhuaman, Quenqo and Tambomachay. From her you will slowly make your way on foot through the Sacred Valley stopping by the lagoons of Qoricocha and Yanacocha for a picnic lunch. By nightfall you will reach Huchuy Qosqo where you will camp in its breathtaking surroundings.
Day 2 will give you time to explore the complex before catching a bus to Moray and the Salineras. In the afternoon you will take the train to Aguas Calientes to spend the night in a hotel.
On Day 3 you will be perfectly located to catch the first bus up to Machu Picchu and spend the morning exploring this ancient Inca city. You'll be back in Cusco by the end of the day.
Tour 7: Ausangate (7 days)
The Cordillera Vilcanota is an impressive range of mountains which include the massive Nevado de Ausangate (6,385m) and three others over 6,000m. This trail provides excellent trekking, spectacular mountain scenery, snow-capped peaks, hot springs, turquoise lakes, glaciers, herds of llamas and alpacas, picturesque villages and traditionally dressed Indians. It is also high, tough and cold, so be prepared.
This beautiful seven day circular trek starts and finishes at the small Andean village of Tinqui and takes you around the massif of Ausangate and over three high passes (two of them over 5000m).
