Description
Apumayo is a Peruvian company based in Cusco. They have been running tours since 1995. The company describes itself as a commercial venture with a strong environmental and social agenda, developing and supporting many projects like river clean ups, protection of Quenua (Andean Oak) relict forest, environmental education and Andean community activities. Further, Apumayo offers activities and tours for travelers with disabilities. Guides are well trained in culture, interpretation, safety, rescue and first aid.

Apumayo and associates are developing an ecotourism program in the community of Cachiccata near to Ollantaytambo, with the aim to share the profit of tourism with the local community.

Tour 1: Classic Inca Trail (4 days)
Following this ancient Inca Trail you will walk past mysterious archeological sites, half covered by the jungle overgrowth, that looks like you are discovering them for the first time, and finally arriving to the lost city of the Incas: Machu Picchu. Your journey is conducted by experienced guides that will make your trip most pleasant and safe.

Day 1 Cusco - Km. 82 - Huayllabamba
Transfer from your hotel to Km. 82 where you begin your trek along the Urubamba river with magnificent views of snow capped mounts. After the first 3 hours you will arrive at Llactapata , where there is an extensive archaeological site in a beautiful natural setting. Here you leave the Urubamba and set off up the Kusichaca river to your camp in the vicinity of the Huayllabamba.

Day 2 Huayllabamba - Pacaymayo
After a healthy breakfast, begin the walk to the Warmihuañusca pass (4,050 m.).At the end of a gorge, you will set up camp at a place called Pacaymayo.

Day 3 Pacaymayo - Wiñaywayna
From Pacaymayo a short ascent will take you to the Runkurakay circular ruins. After a good rest you start the way down and continue to the steps which go up to Sayacmarca ruins (3600 m.) From Sayacmarca the stone road leads into the jungle, and you will continue your trek toward Phuyupatamarca ruins. The trail crosses the "Lago Seco" and "The Tunnel", a natural cavity produced by a landslide but adapted by the Incas. The path continues down to Wiñay Wayna ruins, the most important after Machu Picchu and the site of your last camp ground.

Day 4 Wiñaywayna - Machu Picchu
Get an early morning start towards Inti Punku - the last pass. From this site Machu Picchu looks unreal and beautiful. Spend the rest of the day discovering Machu Picchu.

Tour 2: inca Trail Express (2 days)
Day 1 Cusco - Km 104 - Wiñaywayna - Machu Picchu
Travel by train to km104 where you wil start the trek. After 3 hours you will reach the well preserved remains of Wiñay wayna (2900 mts. altitude), passing beautiful waterfalls on the way. The afternoon is free for exploring the ruins with its houses, terraces, towers and local museum and go on to Inti Punku, the Inca gate of the sun, for your first sight of Machu Picchu.

Here you will cross the ridge that leads to your destination, and the full grandeur of the greatest archaeological discovery of modern times is revealed. After a guided tour of Machu Picchu you will be brought to the hotel.

Day 2 Machu Picchu
We visit the Sanctuary early in the morning for a full day of exploring with a guided tour. In the afternoon head to Aguas Calientes where you will take the train back to Cusco.

Tour 3: Inca Trail to Machu Picchu (5 days)
Day 1 Cusco - Km. 82 - Wayllabamba
Transfer from the hotel to Km. 82 where you start your trek along the Urubamba River with magnificent views of snow capped mounts, arriving to camp at Wayllabamba for the night.

Day 2 Wayllabamba - Sayacmarca
Begin with the walk to the Warmihuañusca pass (4,050 m.). At the end of a gorge, a place called Pacaymayo you will stop to rest and have the lunch before continuing on to the Runkurakay circular ruins. After a good rest you begin the descent and arrive at the steps which go up to Sayacmarca ruins (3600 m.) where you will spend the second night.

Day 3 Sayacmarca - Phuyupatamarca
From Sayacmarca the stone road begins to get into the jungle, and you will continue your trek toward Phuyupatamarca ruins. The trail crosses the "Lago Seco" and "The Tunnel", a natural cavity produced by a landslide but adapted by the Incas. After crossing a small pass you encounter some steep steps and under these the Ceremonial Centre of Phuyupatamarca ruins. Going down the trail you can see the Urubamba valley and the river of the same name... and the last site for your camp.

Day 4 Phuyupatamarca - Machu Picchu
Depart early towards the path goes down to Wiñay Wayna ruins, the most important after Machu Picchu. After a one more hour of hiking you will reach Inti Punku the last pass and the entrance to the magical city. From here you will head to Aguas Calientes to spend the night in a hotel.

Day 5 Machu Picchu
Visit the Sanctuary early in the morning for a full day of exploring and a guided tour. In the afternoon head to Aguas Calientes where you will take the train back to Cusco.
