Saya Wasi Apart-Hotel

Peru > Cusco > Hotels > Saya Wasi Apart-Hotel

Description
This hotel is owner-operated by Marthita Quinteros, who also owns La Retama restaurant. Saya Wasi (Saya-upright; Wasi-house) offers travelers the opportunity to have their own small apartments, fully equipped, slightly away from the hustle and bustle of the main square. Located in upper San Blas (Kiskipata Street), this hotel features three mid-sized apartments, each built on a separate terrace (reminiscent of Inca terraces) with the best view in town. Construction on the hotel began in 2005 and was completed in early 2007.

Saya Wasi’s personalized service and relaxed atmosphere will make you feel as if you had your own flat in Cusco surrounded by the friendliest of neighbours. Marthita lives in the top apartment with her niece and assistant Marisol, who is there every morning to make sure you have a great start to the day. She can also help organize your days in Cusco through their on-site agency ‘Saya Tours’. Marisol herself will pick you up from the airport upon request. The fare is usually 20 soles, but if you take the services or tours of Saya Tours, the pick-up will be done for free.

Insider Tips
Marthita has the coolest dog ever, Mani, whom you will see wandering around Cusco with a bandana of a different colour everyday.

The apartment on the first floor is one of our favourites because of the wall-to-wall glass door, giving it the feeling of being suspended in the sky above Cusco.

Benefits
The apartments are quiet and peaceful, located on a pedestrian-only street

They do have wireless internet access

There is a large patio with plants and flowers, sun chairs and tables located between the first and second terrace, where you can take in the best views in town

Drawbacks
The closest you can get to Saya Wasi is Siete Angelitos Street (Seven Little Angels Street). From there you will have to climb a few steps or if you prefer, you can walk one more block to make it easier. However, Marisol will be happy to pick you up from the airport and you will definitely get help with your luggage, so don't worry about it!

Rooms
Each of the three apartments is located on a different level and all feature enormous windows exposing outstanding panoramic views of Cusco and the surrounding area. They have all been tastefully decorated with fine antiques, colourful paintings, batiques, vintage posters, dried flowers, iron candleholders, and Andean textiles adorning their comfy sofas and restored colonial furniture. Each apartment can accommodate up to 4 people, depending on your needs.

Only the apartments on the second and third levels are equipped with a stove, but all of them have a kettle, a couple of pots and pans, a sandwich maker, dishes, and mugs. You can always enquire with Marisol for specific items if you feel like cooking. All rooms have heaters and cable TVs. The bathrooms are small but comfortable and have been nicely built in stone, decorated with colourful tiles. Showers have good water pressure (they have a tank) with hot water all day long. Soap is provided.

Food
Saya Wasi offers breakfast for an extra $5...bread, juice, eggs, ham, cheese, fresh fruit, and a hot coffee or tea...feel like having something special? Ask for it! On the other hand, Marthita’s restaurant, La Retama is open everyday and food delivery can be made upon request.
