Description
Located at the end of Choquechaca Street in the bohemian neighbourhood of San Blas, only a five-minute walk from the main square, Rumi Punku ensures a relaxing stay in Cusco. The hotel’s grand Inca doorway and the double jamb, symbolizes the entrance to a sacred place, though the purpose of its construction is still a mystery today. There are only three doors in Cusco with this characteristic and this particular one is considered a Historic Monument by the National Institute of Culture.

A wave of peacefulness washes over you the minute you set eyes on Rumi Punku, with its stone water fountain, surrounded by benches and beautifully maintained gardens. Once inside, you will find two sunny courtyards and a magnificent Inca wall on one end. The white, colonial-style building was constructed around the fountain, trimmed by wooden balconies on both levels facing in towards the open-air patio, with the blue cusqueño sky serving as a ceiling.

A cozy, warm guest lounge beckons with its fine decor and antiques, inviting you to relax next to the fireplace and read a book or have a coffee. You will also find a computer terminal with free internet access, satellite TV, board games and comfortable sofas. A safety deposit box is available for use at the front desk. The staff is English speaking, extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Enquire with them about free luggage storage and laundry service.

Rumi Punku (rumi means stone and punku means door) is 8 years old and is owner-operated by Anibal Bèjar, a Peruvian businessman of Norwegian nationality, who plans to open a first class restaurant on the premises this year and extend the lodging area in the coming months with 18 more rooms.

The bathrooms are bigger than most and showers have excellent water pressure and hot water 24 hours a day. The hotel is equipped with a hydroneumatic water tank and has treated water for more softness.
