Los Apus Hotel & Mirador

Peru > Cusco > Hotels > Los Apus Hotel & Mirador

Description
Los Apus opened in 1999 under Swiss management, in the traditional neigbourhood of San Blas, at the corner of Atocsaycuchi and Choquechaca, a very quiet spot, only 5 minutes from the Plaza de Armas. The hotel, whose name signifies the Mountain Gods in Quechua, houses 20 rooms and offers top notch customer service (as is the tradition in the Swiss hotel industry), in a cozy and charming four-story colonial home finely restored with stone columns and Spanish-style wooden balconies. The entire property is filled with plants and flowers creating a warm and relaxing atmosphere. A magazine stand and free coca tea are available in the lobby.

Service at Los Apus includes free transportation to and from the airport, careful laundry service (per item, not per kilo), a safety deposit box at the front desk, money exchange and a most professional staff, happy to make flight or train reservations and provide accurate information about Cusco.

Insider Tips
Los Apus has a unique central heating system, which keeps the building warm all day and night.

Benefits
Non-smoking rooms and rooms for disabled guests are available

Outstanding service

Free wireless internet access

Extra-long beds – uncommon in the area

Drawbacks
There is only one computer terminal ($1 an hour); however, the place does have free wireless internet access

Rooms
Each of the 20 rooms in Los Apus is unique in its own way –some have balconies with a nice view of Cusco, some are built around authentic Inca walls, some are adorned with authentic Inca ceramics - but all preserve the same discerning taste, combining wood and iron to create a rustic, yet elegant, atmosphere. Rooms are painted in earth tones, embellished with wooden strips on the ceiling, wooden floors, finely designed night tables, console tables for desks, relaxing wicker chairs, double-paned windows, extra-long beds, cable TV with 40 channels, smoke detectors and direct dial phones.

The bathrooms are exquisitely decorated with faux-marble tiles incorporating leaf green and terra-cotta appliqués on top, preserving the original stone on the bottom. In some bathrooms the lavatories are supported by iron sculptures and the mirrors are wall to wall. Eleven rooms have bathtubs and the other nine have showers. The water pressure is, of course, excellent and soap & shampoo are provided for guests. Hair dryers are available upon request.

Food
Two restaurants are located on the premises. On the first floor you will find El Patio Restaurant with small tables and comfy chairs (maybe a bit too many tables and chairs, making it difficult to navigate the area), surrounded by stone columns and carved wooden balconies, with a lofty glass ceiling and a small stone fountain with symbolic sculptures of two pumas and two condors. El Mirador Restaurant & Bar is located on the rooftop, with a terrace where you can enjoy a splendid panoramic view of the city while you have a drink. The menu includes international and regional cuisine – mixed sandwich (22 soles), chicken soup (22 soles) and baked guinea pig (50 soles) are among the options. Both restaurants are open from 6am to 7pm (later upon request). Room service is included in the prices. A buffet breakfast is served from 5am to 10am at El Patio Restaurant.

Rates
Single US$89; Double / Twin US$109; includes buffet breakfast and taxes
