Useful Information

Getting There

Shuttles from Antigua run nearly every day. Adrenalina runs most often and charges US$25. Monte Verde (5296-1275) is a bit cheaper at US$20, but they make fewer runs to Antigua. If you use the public buses, you will likely have to change over at Chimaltenango. Comfortable Pullman buses are also available from Guatemala City. A first-class bus, Linea Dorada, just added a route to Xela. They are much nicer and charge only a bit more than the other Pullmans. One-way from Xela to Guatemala City costs Q60.  The ride usually takes about 4 hours but due to construcion expect some delays.  A taxi to any of the bus terminals from the center of Xela should cost Q15-25.

Getting Around

The streets in Xela, as well as many other towns throughout Guatemala have an interesting numbering system. Zone 1 consists of a grid of streets (Calles) and Avenues (Avenidas). The number of a building is denoted by the cross street, as well as the distance from that cross street. For instance, an address that states: 6a Calle 7-24 means that the building is on the 6th street, the cross street is 7th avenue and it is 24 meters from the corner.
