Description
This restaurant is a can't-miss for anyone who comes to Antigua. La Fonda is well known internationally for its local Guatemalan specialties, serving up superb traditional food with a tourist twist. The specialty of the house is the Caldo Real, a tasty bowl of soup with big chunky pieces of chicken and rice. The menu also includes succulent Asador (BBQ) of chicken and steak as well as papusas which are fantastic here. One dish you must try while in Guatemala, however, is the Pepian de Pollo, a chicken stew with a mouth-watering mixture of local spices. A vegetarian version is also available. The staff here is friendly and English speaking. The menu is a bit on the pricey side (Mains Q60 - 100), but worth it. Owned by a local family.
Insider Tips
There are three locations in town, but this one is the most charming with its lovely central courtyard and smaller side rooms branching out from the center.
