Description
If you want a traditional Guatemalan meal this is the place to go. Miriam Morales opened La Cocina 8 years ago as a place to go for a home cooked meal, “comida de casa.” Every day they have a menu del día featuring soup, salad, a main course, desert and coffee for Q 30. Its cafeteria style so you get to see the selections (and point if your Spanish is lacking) and choose between one of two salads and one of three entrees (either chicken, beef or pork). The food is delicious and it’s a great place to try some Guatemalan classics. The atmosphere is simple but bright-- wooden tables with colorful cloths and yellow walls. The crowd is usually professional locals on their lunch hour. The view leaves something to be desired with, the big doors open onto a busy street in front of a gas station but you can go upstairs to avoid it or just focus on the soap opera playing on the television in the corner.
