Description
Laurel Jacobson and Bruce McCown met on a boat on Lake Atitlan. After falling in love, they dropped everything and bought a house in Antigua where they would build their new life together. Panza Verde is a true labour of love and it shows in all the finer details including the decadent gardens with Rose, Bougainville and Jasmine. The decor is stylish and tasteful and the staff knowing this carries an attitude to portray the image. There is an in-house art gallery on the gorgeous rooftop terrace with exhibits that change monthly including both local and international works - wine and cheese accompanies new exhibit openings. In the evenings a romantic atmosphere is created with the candlelit tables and chandeliers. There is a narrow lap pool running along the edge of the restaurant. The hotel bar is cozy and welcoming surrounding the artistically designed fireplace. La Cueva is the recently opened music room that, from Thursday - Saturday features various live musicians including Cuban and jazz performers.

The most recent additions to the hotel are rooms 8 -12 (built in 2002), two of which have their own private terrace. All have enormous beds and spectacular baths surrounded with candles. A great way to splurge for that special occasion.
Benefits
Located in the southern end of town - isolated from the noise pollution.
Yoga classes are held in the gallery every morning.
Beautiful courtyards and terraces.
Drawbacks
Some staff at the hotel project a bit of an attitude that comes with being one of the city's best. Try to get to know them and they will open up considerably.
There is no official front desk, making inquiries and service requests somewhat awkward.
Rooms

The suites are definitely the way to go here, so save this one for a night you are willing to splurge.
Food
Renowned chef Christophe Pache Uses Mayan herbs and spices from the highlands to create an international cuisine that surpasses most in the country. A fantastic setting in the grand courtyard of the hotel amongst the beautiful gardens. The restaurant is open Tues - Sat for lunch and dinner and Sunday for brunch from 10:00am - 4:00pm.
