Description
Centrally located, only one block from Central Park, Hotel Casa Vecchia is a beautiful example of impeccable restoration and attention to detail. What once was a ruin in the center of Antigua has been completely reconstructed and remodeled and transformed into what is now a five star luxury hotel. The exterior walls date back to the 18th century and the hotel was bought as nothing more than a two story façade.

Throughout this quaint, small hotel you will find details like fresh flowers and random antiques that add to the charm of the surroundings.

When you walk through the doors of Casa Vecchia and enter the lobby one of the first things you will notice is the soft opera music playing in the background and the seating areas surrounding the hotel’s two courtyards. In keeping with the colonial charm of Antigua, the rooms do not have TV’s but there is a large entertainment room with a TV, a large selection of videos, dvds, books and board games, and an old (in tune) piano.

The staff is friendly and bilingual (English-Spanish) and can help with arranging tours around and nearby Antigua.

There are two dining areas in the hotel: La Chita (Italian for the city) on the roof-top terrace, with a beautiful view and el Bucaro (fountain) on the first level in one of the courtyards.

Insider Tips
Suite Il Giardino (the garden suite) on the second floor is definitely the most beautiful with a canopy bed, a small (very small) terrace from which you can see the Arch (Antigua’s famous Arch street) and a large window to one of the inside courtyards below.

Rooms
There are only 4 rooms at Casa Vecchia and each has all of the standard amenities you would expect to find in a five star hotel, telephone, big antique armoires, wood-beam ceilings, chandeliers (with dimmers), bed side tables with reading lights and spacious and clean bathrooms. The décor is colonial but has modern touches that keep the atmosphere light and inviting. In the bathrooms you will find soap, towels, shampoo and conditioner.

Food
Complimentary breakfast: you can choose from a varied menu that includes orange juice, coffee or tea and either pancakes, French toast, yogurt with granola or the tipico breakfast with eggs and refried beans.
