Description
This charming bed and breakfast is the best value in this category. Located just down the street from the Church of San Francisco, this house provides a quiet option with a friendly atmosphere. The owners, who are Guatemalan, live in Guatemala City, but the staff who operate the hostel - a bit of a misnomer - speak some English and are extremely helpful. The front entrance leads to a lovely, serene courtyard with chairs set out for guests to enjoy. There is also a welcoming family room where guests can mingle or relax with a book on one of the comfortable couches.

Benefits
The best value in this category.
Lots of charm, service and tranquility, without the extra cost.
Drawbacks
This part of town is a throughway for large trucks and can be a bit loud throughout the night and early morning.
The hotel is a bit far from the town center (by far, we mean 6 blocks only) and the streets around here get fairly dark in the evening, so be careful if you are returning after dark.
There is a computer with internet access available to guests and Wi-fi for those traveling with laptops.
Rooms
One of the most charming things about this hotel is that there are only four rooms - adding to the personal atmosphere. The rooms were renovated in 2002 and are all in good condition, some with faux-exposed-brick adding character in keeping with the surrounding ruins. Each room has a private bathroom that is clean, with all the amenities (including hairdryer) and good showers. Room #4 has a bathtub with jacuzzi jets and candles laid out. There is a small cable TV in each room.
Food
Breakfast is served in the dining room according to your schedule and includes fruit, granola, yogurt and baked goods.
Although there isn't a restaurant at San Nicolas, the staff can prepare a light meal for lunch or dinner, given prior notice.
Children
Children are welcome here.
