Description
It is easy to understand where the name of this bed and breakfast came from the minute you step through the timber and iron door into the private courtyard where you feel as though you have entered an enchanted village. The garden to your right is adorned with a beautiful bucaro (fountain) that opens into a small swimming pool. Continuing through towards the back you will come across a lilypond leading to two of the rooms. The lilipads are stepping stones that lead to the doorways. The main entrance and adjacent salon immediately display the tasteful decor that runs throughout the building, in a style that is more modern than most combining European flare with Guatemalan texture. The staff here is extremely friendly and helpful, speaking French, English and Spanish.
Insider Tips
The owners are from Texas, but do not live here. This is a popular choice amongst American visitors.
Benefits
Despite the unassuming facade, this hotel provides incredible style and elegance.
In the evenings it provides an intimate setting with candles lining the hallways and exterior courtyard, including the lilipad steps.
Drawbacks
The streets surrounding the immediate area are not well lit and it can seem very deserted at night. Be careful if you are returning by foot after dark.
Rooms
No expense was spared in the renovations of these rooms when it was purchased in 2003. All rooms are elegantly furnished with custom-designed wrought iron beds, feather and down comforters, and fine Italian linens. Each of the ten rooms is individually designed and is equipped with phone, TV, and minibar. The bathrooms are accented with natural stone featuring walk in showers, signature bathrobes and lovely amenities. The master suite is exquisite on the rooftop-terrace. Within lies a large bedroom and sitting area decorated with framed antique huipils, and a fireplace nestled in the corner. The oversized bathroom includes a walk in shower and jacuzzi tub set on a natural stone platform.
Food
There is no restaurant but breakfast is served on the rooftop terrace where you can enjoy gorgeous views of the town and the surrounding volcanoes. There is a small bar up there that opens daily at 2:00pm.
Rates US$75 - 175; including taxes and breakfast. Note that prices increase on weekends.
