Description
If you are vaguely familiar with Bossa Nova it’s likely that two icons pop in your mind: Tom Jobim and Vinicius, creators of the legendary, unofficial Brazilian and Carioca anthem “The Girl From Ipanema”. This internationally known tune is this restaurant’s namesake. For generations, Garota de Ipanema has attracted hardcore Cariocas of all ages as well as enchanting tourists. People go there for their excellent draft beer, and somehow forget that its a restaurant. Try the “picanha na pedra” (literally, meat on the rock). Don’t be frightened when the waiter brings you the “plate”, a steaming hot rock with melted butter and bite-size pieces of raw picanha (meat) but don’t try going carpaccio on this dish or you’ll be asked to leave. Cook the meat yourself to your own perfection. Crazy rice (with peas, ham, onions and raisins), french fries and farofa are served on the side. Ask the waiter to make your farofa with eggs; calories are no longer an issue, you may as well go all the way!
Insider Tips
For a change of scenery try “Garota do Leblon” - one of the many franchises throughout the neighbourhoods of Rio.
