Getting There
Until recently there was a flight to Lençois but unfortunately it was discontinued. Although this makes it a bit more difficult to get to, it also means that you are more likely to have this beautiful area all to yourself.
Real Express runs daily buses from Salvador. The ride takes over 6 hours and costs R$41. Note that the journey is along the BR-242 which is the main road between Salvador and Brasilia. There are many, many transports that run soya and other produce inland to Brasilia and unfortunately the roads were not equipped for these heavy loads. There are huge potholes everywhere and many places where the road has completely disappeared. It makes for an extremely bumpy ride and one that we do not recommend taking overnight.
Flights are also available on Saturdays through Oceanair into the Lençois airport which is about 25km from town. www.oceanair.com.brGetting Around
If you reserve accommodations in advance, be sure to ask your host how to get to their place from the bus station or better yet, see if they will pick you up. There are no taxis and little information when you get off the bus. The result is that you get hounded by locals who will try to take you to their posada in order to earn a commission. This is helpful if you don't already have a reservation, but be careful of those who say they will take you one place and then take you in an entirely other direction.
