Description
Pousada do Vale’s privileged location at Elizabeth Garden, an area surrounded by natural beauty and historic treasures, is definitely its high point. The sounds of a flowing creek amidst a lush area of island vegetation and shaded groves make this inn unique to Fernando de Noronha.
Located in the heart of Fernando de Noronha within walking distance of the beach, Pousada do Vale (Vale) combines a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere with comfortable furnishings and friendly, home-spun service. Set amongst beautifully landscaped surroundings, this pousada has five rooms, two bungalows, a dining hall, a terrace with a quaint brick oven, and even an outdoor shower. The interior décor includes personalized mosaic panels of vibrant colors and hand-crafted furniture. Surrounding the inn you will find fruit trees, native timbers and the Mulugu water stream, providing an idyllic backdrop.
Insider Tips
- Vale offers intimate private boat tours on the island’s inner sea where guests can snorkel-by-boat and eat sashimi straight from the ocean, which is caught by a local fisherman who accompanies the tours.
- Vale is the only pousada that offers a nature trail shortcut to the heart of Vila dos Remedios and Cachorro Beach, two social focal points of the island.
Benefits
- Vale is the most upscale option in Vila dos Remedios, the main urban hub of Noronha.
Drawbacks
- It’s a bumpy ride to Vale from the main road (owners are petitioning local government for road improvements) and because it is set amidst nature, it tends to be a more popular gathering point for native critters.
Rooms
Vale’s rooms consist of comfortable and versatile doubles or triples. Two of the rooms have their own private terrace with a hammock and a charming set of table and chairs. All rooms come equipped with air conditioning, TV, wireless internet, digital safe, and comfy, reclining chairs. Each room has been decorated with mosaic panels, artwork and hand painted bed covers in a theme that corresponds to its name.
In September 2005, Pousada do Vale unveiled its duplex bungalows, named Crab and Octopus. These bungalows provide guests with ample space and include steam rooms in their thematic bathrooms.
Rates: Singles R$252 – 630; Doubles R$414 – 810; includes breakfast, afternoon tea, airport transfer and internet access.
Food
Local breakfast delicacies such as tapioca and rabanada (Brazilian-style French toast) are included in the room rate and are served in a shared table with other guests to encourage a more friendly and family-oriented atmosphere. Native fruits like mangos and pitanga are mostly grown in Vale’s backyard and served with fresh juices and additional breakfast staples.
Complimentary tea-service is available every afternoon from 5:00pm to 7:30 pm in the breakfast area. This is a good time for guests to share their day’s experiences.
Vale offers a small afternoon menu as a convenient lunch option, featuring homemade specialties like pastas, grilled chicken or steak, or simple seafood options for those who are too tired to go out and explore local restaurants during the day.
Special dinner nights are also featured on certain nights of the week, such as Sunday’s brick-oven all-you-can-eat pizza night – an island must – and grilled fish on banana leaves prepared by one of the owners.
Children
Children under 3 years of age are free in any of the rooms except the bungalows; those between 3-12 years of age are charged 50 % of the regular rate; Vale doesn’t allow children under 12 in their bungalows outside the main house.
