Description
Located in a restored French-style building on Buenos Aires’ oldest street, The Cocker is the brainchild of British hoteliers Ian Spink and Aidan Pass, and is named after their cocker spaniel, Rocco. This small, four-level bed and breakfast has 5 rooms, two terraces, a roof-top garden and a fantastic view of the Buenos Aires skyline.
Two heavy wrought-iron doors and a crystal chandelier usher you up marble stairs to the reception and living area where a baby grand piano and a floor-to-ceiling bookcase reside, in addition to the largest leather couch you have ever seen.
Decorated in an attractive eclectic style, personal treasures mix with antiques and Egyptian cotton bedspreads. Breakfast is served in the informal dining room every morning, or in your room if you prefer, and there is wireless access throughout the hotel.
Insider Tips
A great place to relax after a long day, and the terrace is fantastic during the summer.
Benefits
Excellent location, a short walk to everything in San Telmo and Puerto Madero.
The owners speak English, and are very helpful.
Drawbacks
The hotel has three staircases, including one that is quite high.
No TV’s or phones in the rooms (although this may be a benefit to some!)
Rooms
There are 4 rooms and one suite, all named after important dates in Ian and Aidan’s lives. A favourite is the suite (19-03), which has a floating bathroom which sits over the double bed and a private terrace and French windows.
All rooms feature double beds with fresh, white linen, and private bathrooms with an unending supply of hot water. Fresh flowers decorate bathrooms and tables, and artwork from the owner’s personal collection adorns the walls.
There are four common areas to enjoy: the living room and dining room on the ground floor; a roof-top garden on the third level; and a stunning roof terrace with hammock and armchairs.
Food
A large breakfast is served in the ground floor dining room including fresh orange juice, fresh pastries, toasted rolls, yogurts, fruits and cereals, croissants, fruits, yogurts, as well as real English tea, and coffee.
Children
Children not permitted.
