Description
Owners Tom Rixton (British record producer) and Argentine PR director Patricia O’Shea decided to create Home when they got married in Buenos Aires. Many of their friends came from abroad and that is when they say they discovered a lack of comfortable, well-designed and homey places in the hip area of Palermo Viejo, where everybody wanted to stay. They convinced fellow record producer Flood (U2, Smashing Pumpkins) and bass player Nick Seymour to invest in a hotel and from this union Home was born. Although from the outside it has the appearance of a bunker, the inside is airy and filled with light and includes a big garden with a small pool.
Insider Tips
This refuge attracts the not-so-young but still hip. Last year the hotel hosted a dinner party for the U2 gang after their concerts in Buenos Aires. Madonna was spotted there dancing and chatting with Bono.
No wonder Condé Nast put it on the 'Hot List' for 2006
Benefits
The secluded deck by the pool beckons you to spend the day, and to move only if tempted to spend some time at their ayurvedic spa.
The restaurant and bar offers exquisite cuisine and a cosmopolitan menu of cocktails.
Drawbacks
Those seeking complete peace and relaxation should know that this is a lively place at night, with music and special events which can last through the morning hours.
The staff here is quite friendly, but it may sometimes seem that they were out partying all night, and they probably were!
Rooms
Home has 17 rooms each with a distinct style combining the old with the new. The decor is simple yet warm, combining cement, wood and glass into a comfortable atmosphere. All rooms come equipped with an MP3 player, WiFi and a library of CDs and books. Queen-sized beds (in the standard rooms, suites have king-size) are custom-made with watambu wood and the rooms have been filled with 1950’s-style furniture complimented by Chilean wool rugs. The suites come complete with their own lounge area, Jacuzzi and private sun terrace. In the bathrooms you will find original handmade soaps and cozy bathrobes.
Food
The resto-bar at Home is the social heart of the hotel. It’s full of healthy, yet delicious options from breakfast to dinner, and a good selection of coffees and teas with pastries, all to be enjoyed overlooking the garden and pool.
Children
Home is primarily geared towards couples and is not recommended for those traveling with children. However, the suites open up to adjoining rooms and are perfect for accommodating families or groups.
