Description
One of the most breathtaking ways to see the surrounding beauty is from the center of it all, in the middle of Lake Nahuel Huapi. Pura Vida Patagonia (54 2944 - 448 793) offers single day and multiday tours with English speaking guides upon request. See website for tour details.

Tour 1: Limay River to Traful (2 days)
This two-day adventure trip begins 62 miles from the wet forest of Bariloche, in the middle of the Steppe, where it only rains 10 to 12 inches per year. In the Mapuche aborigine tongue, Limay means "crystal-clear".

Kayak along this river until it meets the Traful River, rowing 3 to 4 hours a day on very calm waters, and enjoying unique scenery.

On the second day, bear witness to the Patagonian past by taking part in an archaeological excavation with experts who teach and guide, and also share different activities with rural dwellers, which include a tasty Patagonian barbecue. With luck, you will see guanacos, condors, eagles, trout, and other animal species, until you reach the Enchanted Valley, where the scenery is truly breathtaking. Two days getting to know and enjoying life in the Limay River, one of the true big clear water reservoirs in Argentine Patagonia.

Tour 2: Limay River to Alicurá (5 Days)
The natural drainage area of Lake Nahuel Huapi (or "Tiger Island", in the Mapuche aborigine tongue), is the Limay River, which joins the Neuquén River to form the Negro River, and further empty in the Atlantic Ocean.
Why not enjoy an experience that will leave an everlasting impression, with a taste of life in the river?

This tour includes five days and four nights of camping, games, trekking, and swimming, getting to know the few and wonderful Patagonian dwellers.

You will kayak from the mouth of the Limay River until it meets the Traful River (a spot known as "Confluencia", or "Meeting of the Waters"), until you reach a huge lake formed by the Alicurá dam.

Tour 3: Grand Expedition - Lake Corridor (8 days)
Your trip begins in San Carlos de Bariloche, from where you travel to Lake Correntoso, in the province of Neuquén. After preparing and loading your kayaks, set off and immediately begin to share a true natural treasure: the Lake District in Northern Patagonia, where snow-peaked mountains and volcanoes get so close you can practically touch them.
Here you begin your outing in awe at the beauty of the high mountains reflected on the lakes, where the Nahuel Huapi National Park preserves large forests of native specimens. During the trip, you can appreciate the transition from the wet forest to the steppe, where in only 31 miles the amount of rainfall drops from 138 to 10 inches a year.

Tour 4: Lakes Mascardi, Hess, and Roca (4 days)
Day 1: Meet at the arranged place for the transfer to Lake Mascardi, where you will get acquainted with your kayak and the rest of the group. Lake Mascardi drains into the Pacific Ocean through the Manso River basin. It is also the direct recipient of the thaw of the Castaño Overo glacier, which forms Mount Tronador - 38255 feet high. This mountain marks the natural border with Chile.
Kayaking along its coasts, surrounded by rugged mountains and native forests, you reach the Tronador lake branch, where the view of Mount Tronador is absolutely breathtaking. Once in this lake branch, you kayak around Corazón Island, and head straight to the place where you set up camp, on the shores of the La Volteada stream.

Day 2: In the morning, discover a wide variety of landscapes, with mountain peaks breaking the clouds that come from the Pacific, and water streaming down the hills in torrents that later turn into rivers and lakes.
Head south towards your second camping site, "Los Rápidos", by some rapids where Lake Mascardi flows into the Manso River.

Day 3: In the morning, your gear is moved by car for approximately 10 miles along road 81 in order to avoid strong rapids in this river section.
Climb once again onboard your kayak, and tour Lake Hess, at 2300 feet above sea level. Along its coastline, you see exuberant native forests, while hearing the roaring glaciers shape up the landscape. In the heart of a practically inaccessible spot for the ordinary traveler, kayak the entire lake and head once again towards the Manso River, where you will connect straight to your final lake and begin your last night out.

Day 4: Wake up in a unique place, in the middle of the Andes. Kayak the entire Lake Roca, stop on its beaches, and enjoy the privilege of becoming acquainted with ancient larch trees protected by the Nahuel Huapi National Park, which are only present in this region, the exuberant Valdivian Forest.
This marks the end of your 4-day expedition, and return to the town of Bariloche at approximately 6 pm.

Tour 5: Brazo Tristeza (2 days)
Day 1:Transfer to López bay for preparation and orientation. Only a few minutes after leaving López bay, you are immersed in magic scenery, the Tristeza branch of Lake Nahuel Huapi, surrounded by mounts López and Capilla, among others. Kayak part of the branch, and later stop for lunch by one of the most beautiful cascades in the area. In the afternoon, continue paddling until reaching the source of the lake branch, where you set up our camp.

Day 2:In the morning, trek up the Frey cascade (degree of difficulty: very easy), amidst ancient larch trees, among other native specimens. Prepare your kayaks for the return trip along the lake branch to López Bay, always surrounded by high snow-peaked mountains, such as mounts Capilla and López, both towering above 6000 feet.

Tour 6: Los Alerces National Park (9 days)
Day 1: Meet for the transfer to Lake Cholila, distant only 150 miles. Set camp there on the inlet of the Carrileufu river, deep in the Andes mountains, and enjoy your first night out.

Day 2: At dawn, after breakfast, get your kayaks ready for your first day on the Carrileufu river.
This is a small river with a large water volume, without rapids but with several places with river trunks that do not involve much difficulty. You will be able to spot trout and a varied bird life while going downstream.
This will be a long day, as your goal is to reach the mouth of the river on Lake Rivadavia for your second night out.

Day 3: Spend this day on Lake Rivadavia, guarded by the high peaks, until you reach the south inlet, where you will spend the night.

Day 4: Begin your fourth day on Lake Rivadavia. Stretching for over 5 miles, the breathtaking river has only one very small rapid, as well as several places with tree trunks. Depending on the water level, you will be able to navigate through or else be forced to walk along shore. Soon you will reach the small Lake Verde, which you will cross swiftly to reach the Arrayanes river, where you will enjoy our fourth camping day.

Day 5: The schedule for this day out is to hike up to Port Chucao, on Lake Menéndez, where an optional boat excursion is available to visit two unique places: the Torrecillas Glacier, and a Larch Forest, where you will encounter "Grandfather" a 2,600-year-old tree. Paddle to your next campsite, on Lake Futalaufquen.

Day 6: Head to the Lake Krüger shelter, accessed only by water, where you will spend the night sleeping on a bed after enjoying a warm shower.

Day 7: This morning you will walk for two to three hours to get to know the area and give your arms a little rest.

Day 8: Tour almost the entire Lake Futalaufquen until reaching its south end, where you will spend the last night at an inn.

Day 9: Travel to the town of Esquel, where you will spend the morning and further return along a paved road to the town of Bariloche.
