The climate varies widely throughout Peru due to the variety of regions in the country. The weather along the coast is quite arid due to the desert conditions. Summers (Dec - March) here can be quite hot and dry with temperatures rising as you move North along the coast towards the equator. The winter months (May - September) are humid and somewhat milder. You will often find a mist in the air, which is referred to as the garúa.
The Andean highlands experience rainy season from December – March. The rains are often patchy but can be fierce when they hit, leading to landslides and disrupting transportation schedules. Temperatures stay somewhat warm during this time with averages of 19°C during the day and 15°C at night. The dry season runs from May – September and temperatures can be much more varied, dropping towards freezing at night and reaching 25°C during the daytime.
The jungle is consistently hot and humid with rainfall throughout the year. The drier season here is from May – September.
