Today Guatemala possesses the unique combination of both pre-Columbian Mayan traditions and Spanish colonial heritage, along with several modern towns that are adapting to globalization.
Guatemala is extremely diverse in geography and climate given its relatively small size. The country lies over 3 tectonic plates that are forcing against one another, creating this unique landscape. It is easy and inexpensive to get from one location to the next in order to experience this diversity which includes swamps and jungles, tropical plains, beautiful lakes and 37 volcanoes!
Guatemala has been nicknamed the 'Land of the Eternal Spring' thanks to its ideal mild temperatures that last throughout the year. Guatemala's most unique feature is its indigenous population, which is a large majority of its 12 million inhabitants, including 23 Mayan groups, each with their own language.
