About Fernando de Noronha
Fernando de Noronha is a Scuba Diver’s paradise located about 200 miles off the northeastern coast of Brazil. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2002, Fernando de Noronha is also home to some of Brazil’s best, and most secluded beaches. With a population of only 2,500 and a limit of 700 visitors at any given time, the island has managed to remain an unspoiled gem. The Environment Preservation Tax which escalates daily serves to keep people from settling in for too long and helps to maintain the local ecology. The main island of the Fernando de Noronha archipelago is about 17 square kms and is the only inhabited island of the group.
Best Time to go
Fernando de Noronha's peak tourist season runs from mid-December through the end of February. During this time, flights and visitor permits fill up quickly so you’ll need to plan in advance. Temperatures remain constant throughout the year, at around 26 degrees Celcius on average and humidity levels around 80%. There are two well-defined tropical seasons on the island: the rainy season (January – August) and the dry season (September – December). The rainiest months are between March and April when rains can reach 20cm per day. The scuba diving conditions are best between August and November in the Mar de Dentro (North Coast of the island) and between January and March in the Mar de Fora (South Coast of the island). The surfing is best between December and March. Fernando de Noronha's beaches are perfect 365 days a year, however the weather patterns that appeal to surfers during the summer months (December – March) may be a bit unpleasant for swimmers.
