About Salta

Salta is known as 'La Linda' (the beautiful one). Although it is difficult to see how this refers to the town itself, the surrounding geography is definitely worthy of the title. Salta is rich in Spanish architecture which has been dutifully preserved by many of the tourist buildings. Salta is the land of folklore.

The Day of Pachamama is August 1st. This festival, which pays tribute to the deity mother earth, is celebrated by the Andean communities throughout the region and provides a good occasion for tourists to see them in action.

Best Time to go

Salta's weather is temperate throughout the year due to its altitude (1200m). However, in order to see some of the high points of the surrounding areas, it is best to visit Salta during the winter months of April - November when the rainy season has ended. If you are coming to tour the wine country, September through April is ideal as it is the season running into the harvest.
